So, Just who is Dr. Candace M. Lewis?

She comes from central Florida. Ocala, to be exact, and was educated in the Florida School System. After high school, she attended The University of Florida in Gainesville, where she earned a BS in communications. While in college, she heard a “calling,” and after graduating from The University of Florida, she applied to and attended Gammon Theological Seminary. While at Gammon, she excelled in her studies and exhibited leadership qualities in many clubs and organizations.

In June 2000, she graduated from the Harvard Divinity School’s Summer Leadership Institute on Faith-Based Community Economic Development. She comes to Gammon Theological Seminary after serving as District Superintendent in the Florida Conference for four years. In 2009, while an ordained elder, she was appointed founding pastor of the New Life Community United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Following her pastorate with New Life, share was appointed General Secretary in the New Church Starts Division and later as Executive Director of Part 1 New Church Starts at the General Board of Discipleship in Nashville, Tennessee, a United Methodist Church general agency. She earned a Ph.D. in Ministry in Church Leadership Excellence from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., in May 2014.

So, just who is Dr. Candace M. Lewis?

Reverend Dr. Candace M. Lewis is the President-Dean of Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. When she accepted the offer by the Gammon Theological Seminary Board of Trustees to serve in the role as president, she became the first woman to head any of the schools that make up the Interdenominational Theological Center, the largest consortium of Historical Black Seminaries in the world.

On December 4-6th, 2023, President-Dean Lewis will be hosting, along with the Board of Trustees, the Gammon Theological Seminary’s 140th Founders Day/Pastors and Leaders Conference at the IMPACT Church in East Point, Georgia.
