In a Defining Moment for Atlanta’s Westside Beltline: Ignite ATL Inc. Names Darrell Booker Strategic Partner to Lead a New Era of Innovation, Tech and Youth Empowerment in Historic Blandtown
Ignite ATL Inc. today announced a major step in its mission to serve young people along the Westside Beltline with the appointment of Darrell Booker as Strategic Partner. The move brings together one of Atlanta’s rising creative youth organizations with a nationally respected technology leader whose work has helped communities across the country understand and use emerging technologies.
Booker is well known for the impact he made during his tenure at Microsoft, where he led initiatives focused on digital equity, nonprofit innovation, responsible AI education, and community-driven technology access. His work helped shape how organizations nationwide think about technology readiness and inclusive development.
Ignite ATL selected Booker to help the organization strengthen its long-term plan to build a creative and technological ecosystem for young people in Atlanta’s historic Blandtown neighborhood. The partnership will support expanded programming in AI learning, digital storytelling, robotics, media production, entrepreneurship, and leadership development, along with hands-on pathways for youth preparing for the future of technology and creative work.
Ignite ATL founder Kandis Knight called the appointment a milestone for the organization and the community. “Darrell has the kind of experience and vision that can move an entire city forward,” Knight said. “His understanding of technology, paired with his commitment to young people, makes him the ideal partner. Having his leadership rooted right here in Blandtown is powerful and long overdue.”
Booker expressed equal excitement. “Atlanta has always had the imagination, talent, and cultural energy to lead in innovation,” he said. “What Ignite ATL is building in Blandtown has the potential to change the course for generations of young people. I am honored to contribute to this work and to support a neighborhood with such deep history and promise.”
Blandtown itself stands at a defining moment. One of Atlanta’s oldest Black-founded neighborhoods, it played a central role in the Westside’s industrial and cultural development but spent decades overlooked in the city’s planning and public narrative. That tide is shifting. The City of Atlanta and its partners are now shaping this section of the Westside Beltline into a new creative and technological corridor, an emerging hub where arts, design, engineering, and entrepreneurship will intersect. What was once forgotten ground is quickly becoming a foundation for the city’s next era of creative infrastructure. Ignite ATL and Booker intend to ensure that this renewal is rooted in equity, providing young people from Atlanta’s neighborhoods real access to training, tools, mentorship, and future-facing opportunities.
The partnership is expected to strengthen every dimension of Ignite ATL’s work, from program development to strategic alliances, resource expansion, and career pathways for youth entering creative and technological fields.
