Dozens of family members and friends gathered to shower native Atlantan Eleanor Brayboy Proctor with love and well wishes as she celebrated her 85th birthday in grand style.
The elegant celebration was held on December 14, 2025 at a Mableton clubhouse, beautifully decorated in a silver, pink, and green color palette. Guests enjoyed an afternoon filled with laughter, memories, and heartfelt tributes honoring a woman whose life has been marked by service, faith, and family.
A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School’s Class of 1958 and Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University), Proctor was treated to a touching musical tribute from all five of her grandchildren. Ranging in age from 21 to 25, the young adults serenaded their grandmother with “Because You Loved Me,” made famous by Céline Dion. Their performance earned a standing ovation from the nearly 100 guests in attendance.
Proctor’s daughters – Fox 5 Atlanta journalist Aungelique Proctor (Anderson) and Clayton County educator Alexis Proctor Kellam – kept the celebration lively by hosting a fun trivia segment highlighting their mother’s remarkable life. Guests tested their knowledge about Proctor’s career as a retired Georgia Childcare Licensing Inspector, her 65-year membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Kappa Omega Chapter, and her many personal milestones.
A proud “Grady baby,” Proctor was also joined by members of Central United Methodist Church, reflecting the deep faith community that has been an integral part of her life. She was married to fellow Atlanta native and educator Emmett LaCoste Proctor Jr., who preceded her in death in 2009.
The celebration was highlighted with a blessing of the food by Rev. Gary Dean of Hoosier United Methodist Church. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Josephine’s Mama’s Kitchen of Conyers, adding a flavorful touch to an already memorable occasion.
At 85, Eleanor Brayboy Proctor continues to be celebrated not only for her years, but for the legacy of love, leadership, and service she has built across generations.
