100th Anniversary of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated by Sparkling Specialties

By M. Paulyne Morgan White, Sparkling Specialties

Congratulations to Donna Scott, president and member of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated.

The sorority was founded as the Alpha Chapter in 1922 at Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana.

November 12th marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the youngest of the four black Greek-lettered sororities following Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta, along with the four predominantly Black fraternities which make up the Divine Nine organizations.

For 100 years, the Atlanta Chapter president says, the sorority’s motto “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” has made a difference in the community where they are located in a unique way. Scott was initiated in the Savannah State University Chapter and plans to initiate exemplary programs as sisters to others in need in her Atlanta chapter.
