A few of my good friends disagree with me. But at the same time, we love and respect each other.
If Biden were to drop out, Trump gets a triple target. One, Biden becomes a “lame duck” target for all Republican candidates. Two, Biden would not be able to adequately respond because the replacement candidate would need all the space, time and energy possible to carry her/his campaign forward. Thirdly, the DNC Convention is held in Chicago toward the end of August (19-22). The new candidate would have less than three months to put together a full, creative and dynamic campaign organization. Less than three months to redo what President Biden has been doing for four years.
The old dictum “be careful what you wish for” is most applicable at this present hour. Those who want President Biden out might take a cue from the dynamic silence of the Trump motor-mouth machine. There is another unwritten political dictum, “never interfere when your opponent is about to commit self-inflicted wounds or death.”
I make bold to state that the Trump Organization is depending on at least two things: first and foremost, voter suppression. This has worked since the 1870’s; why not continue using it in the twenty-first century? The second is the self-inflected wound by the Democrats. This worked extremely well in 1968 when Hubert Humphrey was ten thousand times plus better than Richard Nixon. It worked in 2000 against Al Gore… And again in 2016 against Hillary Clinton. Even the demons in hell would have to agree that Hillary Clinton was a gift from Eternity compared to Donald Trump. Yet some none-voting, non-visionary, down-ballot democrats gave the White House, the Supreme Court and over 150 lower court appointments to Donald Trump in 2016.
The phrase “Democracy is on the ballot” is far from just a slogan. It is a disturbing affirmation of reality. As real as 1860 when the decision was whether we would have one nation without slavery or two nations – one based on slavery and another based on freedom and democracy.
Today, there is a world-wide move or trend against democracy. I make bold to state that the two powerful anti-democracy forces world-wide are, in my opinion, Trump and Putin.
I pray that American Democrats will not unintentionally empower Trump by walking away from President Biden in the middle of a fierce political storm.
We already have, in my opinion, a federal judge in Florida acting like Trump’s defense attorney. The Florida Federal Judge, plus six Supreme Court justices and you have 50 years of dying American democracy. However, it does not take a half century to kill a democratic society. It only takes one or two elections.
The distinguished news reporters, columnists and organizations who so militantly beat up on President Biden with glee will find that democracy and freedom ended under a second Trump regime. “Be careful what you wish for.” I pray we will not face such a moment.
As for me, I wish for and vote for and pray for President Biden and Vice President Harris. Our younger son, Pastor Otis Moss, III. declares that “democracy is on the ballot.” He is eternally correct.
Dear God, help us to save our Nation and our democracy for the present and the future. Guide us each day and give us the wisdom, faith, courage and love to do Your Will. Amen.
