The Kaleidoscope Child Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to education, clean water, and essential resources for vulnerable children, is set to host its annual 5K event on September 15 at J.C. Howell Park. This year’s event carries special significance as it will be featured in a documentary directed by the award-winning filmmaker behind “Happy.”
The foundation, which has been serving children in both developing countries and the United States for over 20 years, aims to raise vital funds through the 5K event while also celebrating the transformative stories of the children it serves. Registration for the event opens at 8 am, with the race beginning at 9 am.
David Ault, Executive Director of the Kaleidoscope Child Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event. “Our annual 5K is not just a fundraiser; it’s a celebration of our commitment to equitable educational outcomes,” Ault said. “This year, we are excited to highlight the impact of our work through a feature documentary that will capture the energy and stories from the event.”
The documentary will chronicle the foundation’s journey over the past two decades, showcasing the incredible work done to uplift vulnerable children through education and essential resources. It aims to create awareness and drive action by highlighting the challenges these children face and the positive changes being made in their lives.
One of the key partnerships highlighted in this year’s event is with the Dresden Elementary School Education Foundation, which will receive a $5,000 grant from the Kaleidoscope Child Foundation. This partnership exemplifies the foundation’s commitment to educational excellence and ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to succeed.
Dresden Elementary serves a diverse student population, with over 95% of children coming from Latin American countries. The grant will provide essential resources to help overcome the unique challenges these students and their families face.
“By supporting local educational initiatives, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also investing in the future of our community,” Ault said. “Our initiatives directly impact the lives of over 1,000 children annually, helping to create a brighter future for these children and their communities.”
Filmmaker Michael McKinley, who is directing the documentary, emphasized the importance of storytelling in inspiring action. “The stories we tell can create awareness and drive action,” McKinley said. “This film will showcase the resilience of these children and the positive changes being made in their lives.”
The annual 5K event serves as a focal point in the documentary, capturing the energy, enthusiasm, and community spirit that surrounds the foundation’s mission. After the event, the film crew will travel overseas to document the transformative stories of those whose lives have been changed by the foundation’s initiatives.
The Kaleidoscope Child Foundation invites community members to participate in the 5K event and support its mission. “Together, we can uplift and inspire the next generation of leaders and change-makers,” Ault said.
