On Sunday, September 1, 2022, a beautiful thing happened at Wheat Street Baptist Church in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
Many parishioners witnessed the Reverend Dr. William J. Smith as he stood in the sacred Wheat Street pulpit and declared to the congregation that serving as the church’s new senior pastor was his pleasure. Reverend Smith is the eleventh senior pastor to lead Wheat Street in the church’s 155-year history.
There were many accolades, beautiful music, and a congregation whose prayers were finally answered as the long search for a senior pastor to serve the historic church was over.
This landmark event happened on first Sunday and included a communion ceremony. After the regular service, a special reception was held in the First Unit of the church, where the new pastor and church members had the opportunity to meet and greet each other.
