Mother Emanuel AME Church 9 Remembered at Motris Brown College

It was a solemn day on the campus of Morris Brown College when faculty, staff, students, administrators, and friends gathered to pay homage to nine church members of the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

The nine members of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church often referred to as Mother Emanuel AME Church were gunned down while in Bible Study on the evening of June 17, 2015. According to witnesses, the shooter was invited in for fellowship. A few minutes after 9:00 P.M., while seated next to South Carolina State Senator Clementa C. Pinkney, the visitor pulled a weapon and started shooting his stunned victims. Morris Brown College which is affiliated with the AME Church paused to reflect, give honor to, and remember those who gave their lives on that fateful night.

They will forever be remembered as “The Charleston 9.”
