#BlackOutComedy is back in action!

BlackOut!, New York City’s realest, rawest comedy sketch review, featuring performers from Comedy Central, HBO, Upright Citizens Brigade, CBS, and Second City, is back for an international run: headlining the prestigious Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival!

Last year, the all-POC comedy troupe performed to sold-out audiences from New York to Baltimore, tickling and thrilling guests with its biting and incisive sendups of modern life, cultural icons, and U.S. politics.

Now, BlackOut!, in partnership with the Atlanta-based non-profit Diverse Arts Now! [https://www.diverseartsnow.com/ ], is prepping for its international debut as the troupe will perform on the closing nights of Canada’s Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival this March.

“The new show is excellent, and I’m thrilled to work with this cast,” said BlackOut! director Shem Pennant, a United Kingdom native whose work has appeared in the BBC, Vice, and Upright Comedy Brigade, and is a regular of the comedy festival circuit. “Having worked with the cast for years at UCB and watching audiences delight in their talents, it makes me love being Black.”

BlackOut! is a first-of-its-kind live show that’s part sketch, part sitcom, and all fun. It’s a collection of traditional sketches, comedic advertisements, and character bits, each highlighting different slices of The Culture.

“It’s so exciting to bring our comedy and our voices to an international audience,” said Jeffrey Elizabeth Copeland, an Atlanta native, and veteran of the NYC comedy scene, as well as writer/creator of the show. “We’re all stepping up our game for this one, and I couldn’t think of a funnier cast, and a better director to crush these shows.”

The cast includes Aaron LaRoche, Alexis Braxton, Jeffrey Elizabeth Copeland, Johnathan Ross, Justin Catchens, Kalynn Chambers, and Kristen Gonzalez.

To raise money for the trip, BlackOut! is holding a one-night-only performance at Caveat in New York City, and Atlanta audiences can experience the magic! The performance will stream live here (https://caveat.stellartickets.com/events/blackout-fundraising-sketch-spectacular/occurrences/b6ee4c29-759c-4706-b8e9-9c55df0ee3d2 ), and tickets will cost $10.  Supporters can check out the BlackOut! crowdfunder [https://www.indiegogo.com/project/preview/38b71eb2#/ ], and cop some merch to support their trip.  Funds raised from this show will be used to pay for rehearsal space, travel costs, lodging, and director fees.

Diverse Arts Now! is a 501-C-3 organization founded to inspire, educate, challenge, amaze, and empower artists and audiences, and to facilitate access to artistic opportunities for underserved communities.
